Summary

The Earth is on the brink of apocalypse… A mysterious cosmic cloud envelops our solar system. The phenomenon has a toxic effect on life on our planet and, according to pessimistic forecasts, only a few hours remain until the end of the world. In the shadow of the looming danger, the temperamental George Challenger invites a few acquaintances to his home – the hunter John Roxton, the journalist Edward Malone, and the quarrelsome professor Summerlee. This time, however, the adventurers will not head to an exotic destination in search of dangerous prehistoric species, as happened in their previous adventure described in the novel “The Lost World”. Now the plan is to stay at home, armed only with a few bottles of oxygen, while they gather courage to face their most dangerous challenge and meet it worthwhile – a challenge that will put all humanity to an emotional, psychological and physical test.
