Ten years ago, college student Quincy Carpenter went on vacation with five friends and came back alone: the only survivor of a massacre worthy of a horror movie. In an instant, she becomes a member of a club no one wants to belong to — a group of survivors known as the “Last Girls”. Lisa, who lost nine sorority sisters stabbed by a former college alumnus; Sam, who faced the Sack Man during her shift at the Nightlight Inn; and now Quincy, running bloodied through the woods to escape Pine Cottage and the man she speaks of only as “Him”. All three try to leave the nightmares behind, and although the media tries to bring them together in an exclusive show, they never meet.

Currently, Quincy is doing well — maybe even great, thanks to prescribed Xanax. She has a caring (almost) fiancé — Jeff, a popular baking blog, a beautiful apartment, and a therapeutic presence in the person of Coop — the policeman who saved her life so many years ago. Her memory doesn't even allow her to recall the events of that night: the past is deeply buried.

At least until Lisa, the first of the Last Girls, is found dead in her bathtub with her wrists slit, and the second, Sam, shows up on Quincy's doorstep. Whirling through Quincy's life like a whirlwind, Sam clearly intends to make her relive the past, with ever heavier consequences. All these lead Quincy to wonder why Sam is really searching her. And when new details about Lisa's death come to light, Quincy's life becomes a race against time as she tries to separate Sam's truths from her lies, to evade the police and the relentless reporters, and — most importantly — to remember what really happened in Pink Cottage, before what began there ten years ago is finished.
