Kristina Ohlsson has worked in the security services and in the fight against terrorism. Since 2006 she has been a professional writer and the author of twelve books: thrillers and non-fiction. The Glass Children is her first novel for children, followed by The Silver Boy and The Stone Angel.
From the very first steps in this house, Billie feels insecure and scared. In fact, the “new” home where Billie and her mother are to move is not new at all – an old, dilapidated building with peeling paint, full of dusty furniture and abandoned belongings, including two strange glass figurines of children on the bookshelf… Who leaves like that without even taking their books? But at night it gets even scarier: someone taps on the second-floor window, footsteps are heard on the roof, and the chandelier in the living room swings back and forth although there is no wind. Together with her new friend Aladdin, who lives on a boat in the harbour, Billie embarks on an investigation of the terrible secret of the “shaky house” and its past. But who is leaving a child’s handprint on the coffee table in the hall? Could the house really be haunted? And what is Ella, the strange woman from the library, trying to suggest?
The Glass Children won the prestigious Swedish Radio Prize for Best Children’s Novel of 2013, awarded by a jury of children. The book has been borrowed from public libraries more than 40,000 times in less than a year and is a bestseller in Sweden and eight other European countries.
