Young and talented knight Collum arrives in Camelot to compete for a place at the Round Table – but finds he is too late. King Arthur died two weeks earlier in battle at Camlann, and only a handful of his knights remain.

The survivors are not the heroes of legend like Lancelot or Gawain. They are the misfits of the Round Table – such as Sir Palomides the Saracen and Arthur's fool Sir Dagonet, knighted as a joke. They are joined by Nimue, Merlin's former apprentice, who later turns against the wizard and imprisons him beneath a hill.

Now it is up to them to revive Camelot in a world whose pillars have been shaken – God has abandoned Britain, and fairies and ancient gods are rising again, led by the Witch Morgan. The heroes must take back Excalibur and rebuild these ruined lands, but first they must uncover the mystery behind the death of the great king Arthur.
